Marching from Phillipsburg, NY, across New Jersey on separate routes, the allied forces united just north of Princeton, followed by the encampment of Rochambeau’s army of 5,000 men on the grounds of Morven on August 29-31, 1781. To commemorate we will spend the week on the site of Rochambeau’s encampment focusing on the crafts and art forms being created during the Revolutionary War era - portraits, miniature portraits, pen and ink landscapes and doll-making, quilt-making, and basketry. Masters of this era like John Singleton Copley, Benjamin West, John Trumbull and Gilbert Stuart will all be explored.
