We'll learn how planets, stars and galaxies are formed and why our night sky looks the way it does. We'll design landing structures for the moon and experiment with building rockets. Students will learn how models are used to understand objects that are far away. Each student will create take-home projects and enjoy demonstrations of the movement of our Solar System and the Milky Way. Projects and activities will depend on the age of the participants.

Junior Gardeners

Details: Have you ever wondered about where your veggies come from? Maybe you thought about planting a garden but you don’t know how to get started. Become a Junior Gardener and you will learn that growing your own veggies is easy and fun and they taste delicious! Duke Farms Garden Educators will show our junior gardeners how to take care of the soil, grow and harvest veggies such as sugar peas, sweet carrots, colorful lettuces and plump Jersey tomatoes and then taste the food that we are growing! This “seed to fork” experience will surely make a lasting impression on your junior gardener. Classes take place outdoors in the Duke Farms Community Garden.

Small Explorers June Event

Details: Join us for June’s Small Explorers program, where we’ll explore the Garden State! We’ll read “I Will Never, Not Ever, Eat a Tomato” by Lauren Child. We’ll visit the Pretty Big Things exhibit to see farming equipment, then head back to the STEAM Center for fun hands-on activities and games. This free program is designed for children 6 months to 5 years old and their caregiver. Space is limited, reservations are required. Contact Kerry.Scott@sos.nj.gov to reserve your spot. Reservation requests must be received by 10:00 am the Friday before the program in order for staff to confirm space availability.

Details: Make awesome projects using cutting-edge technologies as you learn some physics, chemistry, engineering, and math. You will have guided access to our laser machine to cut and engrave various materials to build a custom design of your own creation. New to design software or computers in general? No worries! We will teach the necessary skills and introduce campers to graphic design and sketching tools that experts use in real day-to-day applications.

Intro to Programming

Details: Whether or not you have programmed before, we are sure you will find something new in our Programming camp. The programming language we use has a graphical user interface and basic concepts such as flow charts, loops, and conditionals, and structured programming will be introduced. Children will progress at their own pace. Time permitting, we will control hardware such as Makey-Makeys with our new Scratch skills and develop our own apps.

Kids Art Camp

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: Paper Source, Princeton

Details: Looking for a creative way for your kids to spend their summer days? This week-long experience is perfect for your junior crafters. During this week, kids will be encouraged to discover, design and create with a variety of materials and will come away with several finished projects ranging from paper crafts to clay creations. Classes run for two hours every Monday - Friday.

Age: 7 - 9

 

Wacky Wednesday Storytime

Details: Join us for a crazy fun week of hands-on making and tinkering. Bring your curious mind and creative imagination to create a toy or contraption of your own! From projectile launching to crashinf cars, Ferris wheels to hydraulic based mechanisms, come see what you can make. This program is designed for kids to experience the engineering process through hands-on experimentation. We'll talk about modern making technologies such as 3D printers, vacuum formers, and laser cutters. Explore science and engineering in a completely new way and discover what makes your toys or gadgets work!

Programming With GameMaker™

Details: Have you ever wanted to write your own video games? From novice programmers who can use the simple drag-and-drop interface to experienced designers who can write their own code, GameMaker™ is a great tool to experiment with. You will design your own characters, develop your game plot, and put it all together. We'll examine fundamental game design principles, discuss what makes a good game and what doesn't, and then plan and program our games with GameMaker™. Join us for this fun game design intro and catch the programming bug. Come see what you can create and share with your friends.

Auditions Out of this World Performance Troupe

Details: Calling all rising stars! Come join West Windsor Arts new summer musical theatre program for teens aged 14 – 18. Spend your summer learning from a Broadway coach who specializes in “triple threat” (singing, acting & dancing) techniques and culminating in a live, public performance on our outdoor summer stage. This program will strengthen your Broadway repertoire, interpreting it both musically and dramatically, then guide you through staging and choreography. The dynamic performance of “Music through the Decades” will give every participant their moment to shine!
