The sky above Terhune Orchards will be filled with brightly colored kites in a variety of shapes and sizes as farm visitors enjoy our high-flying festival. Kite Day is a perfect time to explore the farm during our spring festival. Spring on the farm is one of the most beautiful and exciting seasons. All is ready for the bountiful growing season. Children of all ages (and adults too!) can join in the fun. Bring your own kite or choose a ready-made kite from the store. Whichever you choose, test fly your kite in our wide-open 10-acre pasture with all the farm animals looking on. We will have old-fashioned children’s games set up in our barnyard. See spring unfolding on a tractor-drawn wagon ride through the orchards. Our fields will be planted, our asparagus will be sprouting, our fruit trees and flowers will be blooming. Enjoy live country music with bands both Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Jersey Crocs Rule!

Details: Explore the existence of crocodiles in New Jersey throughout their evolution. Crocodylians have been on the Earth for over 200 million years, and the wide diversity of crocodile species found in the Garden State’s fossil record is amazing. The exhibit delves into the fossil history of crocs in NJ, with preserved croc-like trackways dating back almost 200 million years and a nearly complete skeleton of crocodylian Hyposaurus rogersii, which lived in what is now Gloucester Co., NJ about 65 million years ago. Visitors will also come face-to-face with a six-foot skull reconstruction of Deinosuchus, one of the largest crocodiles to ever live.

Feeding and Prey

Location: Duke Farms, Hillsborough

Details: Duke Farms is home to a pair of bald eagles! Using our Eagle Cam, we will follow eagle chicks as they grow, eat, and eventually leave the nest. Through games and classroom activities, we will explore the life, behavior, and diets of eagles. These programs are designed for families with children in grades K-6. At least 1 adult must accompany each child during this program, with no more than two adults accompanying each child. Please note that we cannot accommodate any children who are not currently in Kindergarten. This includes the younger siblings of any registered K through 6 participants as well as any toddlers or babies in arms, carriers, slings or strollers.

Location: Updike Farmstead

Details: Building Princeton (using 70,000 LEGO building blocks) is designed to increase awareness of the town's rich architectural heritage. This family program, with adults and children working together, is ideal for children ages 8-12, but all ages are encouraged to participate. Teams will each receive a photograph and story of a historic building, which they will build within the 2-hour program. When the models are finished, they will be placed on a 30-foot map of Princeton, providing an amazing aerial view of the town.

Family Barn Dance for All Ages

Location: Suzanne Patterson Center

Details: On Sunday, April 14, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., the Princeton Country Dancers present a family dance with square dances, contra dances, play party games and other traditional American dances; it’s great fun for the whole family, from children to parents and grandparents and other folks of all ages. Dances will be led by caller Sue Dupre known for her friendliness and energy; live music is provided by the Mixed Age Dance Band. Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to join the MAD Band - there is a rehearsal immediately before each family dance.
